Why do you belong?

We enjoy asking the question “Why?” Why do we do what we do? Why should we change? And, as we were recently asked, WHY become of a member of the Forestry Sector Council?

The FSC is an industry-led organization, born from the voice of industry need. We receive core funding from the province, but industry support is required to operationalize our Strategic Plan, which is designed to strengthen the industry’s workforce.  Membership and engagement are the main ways we, and our funding partners, gauge industry support.

Our organization was launched during the pandemic, making engagement difficult.  Now, we are doing our best to connect with you through workshops, meetings, and events. We understand you are busy! If you can’t come to us but want to chat about your workforce-related issues, we will come to you. We like to get to the woods too, so we’d be happy to visit your field site, mill, or wherever you’re doing business. So please feel free to reach out!

What’s in it for you?

The supply and demand of labour has flipped. Most employers are used to workers knocking on their door, asking, “Can I come work for you?”. Now competition for labour is strong, and a business needs to reach potential employees and say, “This is why you should come work for me!” We are here to help navigate that shift. We provide templates and toolkits for small businesses that don’t have an HR department. Being part of the FSC means being an Employer of Choice. Your company profile will be in our member directory, where current and prospective employees can find you. Other member benefits are being developed as we grow.

Fall Workshops Summary

On November 7th and 9th we hosted Fall Workshops in the Eastern and Central regions of the province. It was a valuable opportunity to meet in person to have relevant discussions. Thanks again to our session sponsors: Port Hawkesbury Paper, Freeman Lumber, JD Irving, and Forestry Safety Society. We appreciate the industry support, and we look forward to seeing returning and new faces at future events! For those in the Western region, we will reschedule soon.
