POSITION TITLE: Education Outreach Program Coordinator (Canada Summer Jobs)

If you are a motivated communicator, organized team player, and eager to support workforce development initiatives in Nova Scotia’s forestry sector, we have an exciting opportunity for you with the Forestry Sector Council (FORSEC).
We are seeking a youth applicant (ages 15–30) to support FORSEC’s outreach and communication activities throughout the province. This position provides hands-on experience in workforce development, communications, and public engagement—while helping advance sustainable ecological forestry efforts across Nova Scotia. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic about connecting others to career opportunities in our forestry sector.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Education Outreach Program Coordinator (CSJ) will support FORSEC’s initiatives to promote forestry-related careers.
This youth-focused summer role involves:
- Assisting with career fairs, school presentations, and community events
- Coordinating logistics for industry events and stakeholder gatherings
- Supporting outreach efforts that highlight forestry career pathways, climate-adaptation roles, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Reconciliation, and Accessibility (EDIRA) practices and sustainable ecological forestry practices
- Contributing to communications and educational materials
This is a unique opportunity for a young person to gain real-world experience in employment outreach, event coordination, green jobs promotion, and sustainability communications. The successful candidate will help inspire the next generation of forestry’s workforce.
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and provides full-time work experience (30–40 hours/week) between May 4, 2026, and August 29, 2026, for a period of 8 consecutive weeks, with the possibility of extension.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Outreach & Public Engagement
- Participate in career fairs, school presentations, and community events to promote roles in the forestry sector.
- Engage diverse audiences through presentations, demonstrations, and interactive discussions on sustainability, conservation, and climate adaptation.
- Build relationships with schools, employers, training institutions, and environmental organizations to support youth engagement and career awareness.
Event Coordination
- Assist with planning and coordination of conferences and additional stakeholder events focused on sustainable forestry, rural economic development, and industry innovation.
- Support event logistics such as venue preparation, scheduling, registration, vendor coordination, and speaker support.
- Contribute to event plans, outreach proposals, budgets, and reports that align with FORSEC’s sustainability and workforce strategies.
Communications & Content Development
- Create, edit, and publish written and visual content (social media posts, newsletters, presentation materials, print assets) that highlight sustainable forestry careers, and green workforce pathways.
- Assist with digital content, website, and social media engagement to promote awareness and public connection to the sector.
- Design accessible and inclusive visual assets using Canva or similar tools to support education and outreach efforts.
Project Support & Skills Development
- Collect feedback, participation data, and engagement metrics for events; prepare post-event summaries with recommendations.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure consistent messaging across engagement, communications, and initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility (Required)
Applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection
- Have a valid SIN and be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be able to work full-time (30–40 hours/week) between April 20 and August 29, 2026
Education & Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed studies in: community development, environmental studies, communications, public relations, event management, business, forestry, natural resources, or a related field.
- Demonstrated interest in sustainable resource management, or climate-related community engagement.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage youth, communities, and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Experience with websites, social media, content creation, or event coordination is an asset.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Canva is an asset.
- Must be based in Nova Scotia and able to travel for outreach events.
- Familiarity with Nova Scotia’s forests, rural communities, or environmental issues is considered an asset.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & INCLUSION
We operate in a hybrid environment, with at least one day per week in person at our office in Truro Heights, Nova Scotia. This position will also undertake a significant amount of work in the field at events.
